The BJP on Saturday declared Yogi Adityanath as the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, putting an end to speculations since the party’s landslide victory of 312 seats in the state Assembly elections. Yogi Adityanath, the controversial 44-year-old priest-politician from Gorakhpur, is known for his staunch Hindutva approach, provocative speeches and mass following across the state. The Yogi, who wears ‘Hindutva’ on his sleeve and has been accused of involvement in quite a few communal incidents in the past, wields considerable influence among the Hindu hardliners.

These are the serious criminal charges on new UP CM Adityanath which he had declared in his affidavit submitted at time of election.

1. Charges related to criminal intimidation (IPC Section-506)
2. Charges related to Attempt to murder (IPC Section-307)
3. Three charges related to Punishment for Rioting (IPC Section-147)
4. Two charges related to Rioting, armed with deadly  weapon (IPC Sec-148)
5. Two charges related to Trespassing on burial places, etc. (IPC Sec-297)
6. One charges related to Act endangering life or personal safety of others (IPC Section-336)
7. One charges related to Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace (IPC Section-504)
8. Two charges related to Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class (IPC Section-295)
9. Two charges related to Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony (IPC Section-153A)
10. One charges related to Mischief by destroying or moving, etc., a land- mark fixed by public authority Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to amount of one hundred or (in case of agricultural produce) ten rupees (IPC Section-435)
